What we keep, and what we don't.

This policy explains what information Beacon collects, why, where it's stored, and the choices you have. It's written to be read, not just filed. Beacon is a private journaling app — it is not a medical, therapy, or crisis service, and nothing in it is medical or mental health advice.

What you give us

• Voice recordings and transcripts. When you record an entry, the audio is sent for transcription and discarded once the text comes back. We keep the transcript and a short structured summary of it — not the original recording.
• Account information. Beacon creates an anonymous account on first launch, with no name or email required. If you choose Sign in with Apple, we receive the identifier Apple provides — and your name or email only if you choose to share them at sign-in — so your entries survive a lost or replaced device.
• Anything you send us. Feedback submitted in-app, or an email to support, arrives with whatever you wrote in it.

What's collected automatically

• Product analytics. Basic usage events — which screens are opened, whether a recording completed — tied to your anonymous account identifier. We use these to find broken flows, not to build a profile of you.
• Diagnostics. Device model, OS version, and crash reports, used to reproduce and fix bugs.

Subscriptions

If you subscribe, the payment itself is handled by Apple. Subscription status (trialing, active, lapsed) is managed through a billing provider such as RevenueCat. We can see whether your subscription is active. We never see your card details.

How your entries are processed

Transcripts are analysed to organise your journal and, over time, to identify patterns across your own entries. That analysis runs on third-party AI infrastructure — Anthropic — under a commercial agreement where submitted content is not used to train their models. Every pattern Beacon produces is derived only from your own entries and shown only to you.

Where it's stored

Accounts, transcripts, and derived patterns are stored in our database, hosted by Supabase, with row-level access rules that scope every record to the account that created it.

What we use it for

• Running the app: recording, transcribing, storing, and showing your entries.
• Generating pattern insights from your own history.
• Fixing bugs and keeping the service secure and available.
• Answering you when you contact support.
• Managing subscriptions, where applicable.

We do not sell personal information, and we do not sell or share journal content.

Keeping and deleting

Your data is kept while your account exists. You can delete your account from Settings inside the app; this removes your entries, transcripts, and the patterns derived from them. Deletion is permanent and can't be undone. Limited records may persist briefly in routine encrypted backups, and anonymised aggregate counts that can no longer identify you may be retained.

Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, export, or delete your personal data, and to object to certain processing. Most of this is available directly in the app; for anything else, write to mybeaconjournal@gmail.com and we'll respond within the period required by your local law.

Children

Beacon isn't directed at children and isn't intended for anyone under 16. We don't knowingly collect data from children under that age.

Changes

If this policy changes materially, we'll update the date above and note it in the app rather than quietly revising the page.
